I developed my idea into a stop motion animation by first making a digital concept piece, and then by creating the necessary backdrops needed to represent the sky digitally, and placing them onto a background board. I decided to use light, warm pastel colours for the sky rather than bland colours as it made the cotton wool stand out more and create a more desirable dream-like mood. I created a continuous landscape of sky backdrops digitally so that it would look more seamless in animation, however I had to use tape to stick them to the back board rather than glue, as the glue caused the
paper to peel off. Despite this though, the visible seams of each printed piece of backdrop gave the animation a more childish and crude feel, which turned out to be quite a nice effect.
I also made a storyboard so that I would have a clear idea of the events in the animation. The story revolved around the cloud creatures drifting onto the screen, forming up and separating again, as well as flying into the air. I felt that these events really mimicked how clouds form and behave, and it personified the clouds much like how a child would see them using their imagination. The final stop motion animation reflected this story board well, and the events that I had pictured had developed between the time of storyboarding and shooting. I think that the final outcome well reflected the innocence and imagination of cloud watching, as well as the complexity of the human mind and imagination, trying to make sense out of an abstract world.
