Individualisation- Beginnings

I began by looking at selected words my client chose in the quiz. At first I did some broad research covering topics like: night, suburban, manmade, planes, winter, and traditional. I then met with the client and discussed what to make. I decided to create an arctic pilot character for a game,  inspired by the words plane, winter and manmade.

To develop this idea, I looked at a Hollywood Costume book and an art book for the game 'Bioshock: Infinite' to explore different styles. For example, I looked at modern, futuristic, steampunk and traditional styles of outfit ideas that would be suitable for the pilot character. I also looked at material swatches to get an idea of contemporary and traditional materials that would be able to withstand the conditions a pilot would fly in.

However, after researching I decided to pursue a more traditional style of pilot gear, sticking to the client's guidance from the quiz. From this I looked at some primary sources  of inspiration. The first was a standard issue RAF pilot's jacket from my home, which gave me a good idea of types of fastenings and pockets. I also went to the Imperial War Museum to look at pilot gear from WW1, WW2 and the Cold War era. I was given a clearer idea of traditional style pilot's clothing, especially for colder conditions which was ideal for my arctic pilot character.
