I went to Shoreditch to find examples of fixtures and fixings on a trip. At first, I was interested in jewellery found in shop windows, such as chain link necklaces, and home decorations that had been welded in different ways.
I also explored back streets and alleys which held hidden shops and bars with unusual furniture. Pieces were held together in the style of scaffolding, through to wooden plank furniture held with metal rivets. I found a sign made of iron bars and held together with large iron rings and bolts.
I entered a chapel and was shown some of the most fascinating features of the room, for example extending seats which slid out of the main church pews to provide extra seating. I also looked at the various small decorative features engraved into wood and fixed into a precisely sized space in the furniture.
