I was given the brand Dyson and researched the brand values behind the company and its products. The main things that I noticed were innovation, improvement, and a focus on design education. However, I also wanted to look at the companies controversies, most notably Dyson's involvement in Brexit. The company website portrays itself as a pinnacle of British innovation and invention, when instead, I noticed that the Dyson products have become less focused on innovation and more on restyling- for example, when the cordless vacuum was released it was a highly practical and useful innovative product, but with recent products such as the Dyson fan and blow dryer, they perform the same function albeit the appearance is different. There is more of an attempt to appeal to high end designer consumers.
This gave me the idea of designing a Dyson product in relation to this matter. I thought of products that were typically 'British' and chose a kettle as it is used to make tea. I thought about a way to change the kettle, not to necessarily make it much more innovative, but changing the appearance to make it more Dysonesque. I would place the LED strips inside the kettle to alter the appearance, using red blue and white- British colours.
