The Big Draw workshops

Brief 1: Life and Death come together to agree on a better solution for the future. This was presented in a comic style and I had 15 minutes to complete it before moving onto the next brief. I taped my marker to my phone and used the alarm as a vibration. This resulted in some unusual fluid lines.

Brief 2: Fake news and its consequences. I chose to do a cover for a news channel about Avril Levigne being supposedly dead and replaced by a body double. I taped a dry pastel to my marker which created a shadow effect.

Brief 3: The question to the answer "Be resistant." was "Feeling unresistant?". I drew this by taping a paintbrush to my nose and painting onto black paper. I had a distinct lack of control over my lines resulting in slanted writing.

Brief 4: Speakers corner. I chose to write a spoken word about education and used a filter made from hole punched material.

Brief 5: I made a poster saying "Help a sad girl out" to raise awareness of female mental health issues. I had to use a bamboo stick attached to my paintbrush which made controlling it more difficult. I ended up with a calligraphy style painted poster.

Brief 6: I managed to draw both hands fairly similarly using two different hands to draw with. I drew one finger of one hand pressing against a finger on the other hand to emphasise Dissent and Resistance.

Brief 7: Wall of confidence- for my 'brick' on the wall of confidence I created the words "Dress OTT" using semi circles, rectangles and triangles. For me dressing in flamboyant clothing and makeup gives me confidence and so I reflected this on my poster.

Brief 8: For the last brief we made an animation in a team of 3. To focus on dissent and resistance we did two lines of wire being blocked by an invisible wall and curling into a ball. before leaving the frame.

Final comic: The single frame comic was about me working whilst the sun turned red outside. For me this was a highlight of the day as it made the activities that we were doing feel different, as the room ambience was full of excitement and an orange glow.

Final portrait: I did a short interview of a 3D animation student who specialised in character rigging and sculpting. I decided to draw her using sharpie and a ruler in a style similar to wire frame modelling to show relevance to her pathway.
