Spaghetti structures- building and protecting

Building spaghetti structures using only spaghetti, glue guns and blu tack was very frustrating, but it taught me patience and flexibility. For example, I was open to exploring new ways that I could glue the parts of spaghetti together as I went along and eventually I was able to balance all three of the plastic balls onto the structure. My structure appeared to be quite symmetrical- I did not think that I would be able to create 3 balancing areas for the plastic balls using symmetry, and so this element of building surprised me. I was also able to balance items such as pens, pencils and rulers on my structure without it breaking, and it even fell off of the table at one point and did not break at all. My model also mad an interesting building design, when placed up against the scale models of people. I turned my spaghetti structure into an observatory in my sketchbook, where the three plastic balls would act as viewing platforms open to the public, and possibly a museum. The legs of the structure acted as large escalators to the centre of the building. Once I had finished taking photos, I then had to protect the structure from a downwards force. I decided to use cut up paper rolled into tubes with a flat folded surface on top to reinforce it. Unfortunately the structure did not survive the force of the basketball being thrown at it, but I was able to learn from others how I could better protect the structure if I were to redo this activity.
