Revisiting the Tate modern- research

For our upcoming research and review essay, we were given the task of researching 5 rooms in the Tate modern, and finding one piece that we would like to analyse in depth from one of the rooms. I chose the following exhibitions: Citizens, Jane Alexander, Kaveh Goldstan, Carrie Mae Weems and, Painting and Mass Media. Of these five rooms, my two favourite exhibits were the Carrie Mae Weems' photograph series 'From Here I Saw What Happened and I Cried', and James Alexander's installation 'African Adventure'. Both of these artists' work was driven by the effects of racism and european colonialism on black people. Being half black, I felt a powerful connection to these works as it gave me an opportunity to explore a rich history as well as something personal to my family and heritage.
