Based on my triptych experiment, I decided to create a larger and more detailed version using several different mediums. At the start of the studio day, we were told to find any useful pieces of junk in and around the outside of the building that we could turn into an outcome. I created an altarpiece by strapping blocks of wood to cardboard as a frame, and then I painted a figure for the central panel and drew two graphite panels. My final piece I felt mostly reflected my project theme, challenging traditional catholic values in a modern society, but in a way, my piece was not dissenting from traditions in society. I was faced with questions regarding the central figure- how is conforming to a style or genre of music dissenting from traditions when many others do the same? However, there were elements of my piece that did oppose traditional catholic elements. For example, the altar piece was made almost entirely out of scraps. I felt that this somewhat challenged the economic inequality that the Catholic church was responsible for in the past, as usually church altar pieces are framed in gold, painted with expensive paints and highly decorated.
