During the studio days I experimented with the idea of finding an 'opposing force' to one of my starting inspirations. I chose to find something that resisted against Gormley's 'Untitled (for Francis)'. In the library I found a book named 'The Disciples' by James Mollison. The book presented photos of groups of people found at different concerts and revolved around the creation of clans, tribes and religions throughout the history of man. I found one figure of a man who had attended a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert, and decided that his overall appearance, stance and stature felt like a resisting force to Gormley's modest and religious work. From this I experimented with the notion of the 'Modern wounds of christ'- features found in todays society which contrast against the traditional features of Catholicism, features that help groups of people to relate to one another and form their own ideas and culture. I took some features from various pages in the book that I felt were untraditional and created a Catholic-style triptych with them.
