Animation day- Review and crit

On the last day of the LBM week, we were asked to create two animations. The first animation that we created was a lopped gif which focused on metamorphosis. We had to think of something that would turn into something else, something that contrasts against its original form. I worked with a partner to create a simple 6-frame animated gif of a hammer which burst into nails when it hit the surface. We had decided that this was a simple, yet intriguing idea as the hammer and nails act as opposites, and the illustrations provided variation and interest.

The second animation had to be done in a larger group. Our task was to create an animation that morphs into something opposite, however we had to think about features such as use of light, composition, depth of field, a reveal and evoking mood. We made a story about a tooth fairy who instead of collecting teeth and leaving money, eats the teeth an steals the money instead. I crafted the tooth fairy from bubble wrap, which provided a varied texture from the flat surface of our backdrop. In order to make her look unsettling and scary, we gave her wiry arms and fingers, a grotesquely wide mouth, a wraith-like body and an ugly expression.  This contrasted well against the innocence of the first frame in the film, which featured a small tooth in the bottom right corner of the screen. We found that although our film did not make much use of light and altering colour, we used interesting compositions such as in the first frame, and good stop motion work with the doll.
