To begin the 3D pathway, I had to write down all of my birthday gifts that I had ever received onto a piece of A1 paper. This was challenging as I had to really dig up my memories. I found that discussing my gifts with my friends helped me to remember more. Once I had filled the sheet I cut around the words to form one large strip. At first I had not cut enough paper away as the sheet still felt too opaque and solid, therefore I cut into the words more deeply, before going out to take picture of my finished strip of birthday gifts. I found that when I draped the list of gifts over other colourful objects or text, the words seemed to blend in and merge with the surroundings. When we attached our words together in teams and hung them from the string, the mixing styles of writing and drawing created an individual and vibrant 3D structure. Wearing the structure also created interesting colours and patterns which clashed with the other work.
